On Monday, the management of the Lions announced the Lions team for the Finnish EHT tournament, which will be played next week in Tampere.
Western neighbor Sweden announced its own team on Wednesday. One name in particular stands out from the list.
A center who played more than 1,100 NHL regular season games Nicklas Backström37, is returning to the Swedish national team after a break of almost eight years.
Sweden’s head coach Sam Hallam chose a passer who played his entire NHL career with the Washington Capitals to bring skill and experience to the team.
– He was happy and immediately answered in the affirmative when I asked him, Hallam said for Aftonbladet.
Bäckström last represented his country in the autumn 2017 World Cup.
Hallam said that he doesn’t expect miracles from the genius who scored more than 1,000 points in the NHL.
– Many certainly expect him to score three points per set or similar. It’s not like that. When I look at him, I see that he constantly takes a lot of responsibility on the ice and makes the right decisions.
This season, Bäckström has played 16 matches in the SHL’s Brynäs with an output of 2+10.
