A torchlight procession in honor of Stepan Bandera’s birthday took place in Kiev – RBK

In Kiev, a torchlight procession took place, timed to coincide with the 113th anniversary of the birth of one of the leaders of the Ukrainian nationalist movement Stepan Bandera, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

The participants gathered in Shevchenko Park, then the demonstrators began to move towards the Independence Square (Independence Square). They carried lit torches and posters and chanted slogans.

According to the agency, 500-600 demonstrators took part in the action. At the end of the march, its participants were going to picket the Office of the Ukrainian President, but the police did not let them into the building. The action ended without any incidents and under the control of law enforcement agencies.

According to the National Police of Ukraine, all in the country on the occasion of Bandera’s birthday passed 56 events in 20 regions, about 3.5 thousand people took part in them. “The events <...> passed without violations. <...> Public order and the safety of citizens were ensured by the police and military personnel of the National Guard of Ukraine, “the department said.

Stepan Bandera is one of the leaders of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (banned in Russia), as well as one of the initiators of the creation of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA, also banned in Russia).
