Butcher Bertus Tiems (67) from Gasselte stops his butcher shop in Zwolle. A successor has not yet reported, so the butcher throws it over a different bow. Those who want to take his business seriously will receive the entire household effects and 1000 euros as a gift.
Tiems has been running from Gasselte every working day to the AA countries in the Overijssel capital every working day. He gets in the car for day and dew. “It’s getting up early and late back home,” says Tiems with a smile on his face. “But no more later.”
In a little while the butcher will be 68: time to enjoy his retirement. Two years ago he put his case for sale, but so far no one wants to take over the butcher shop. “I think that nowadays not many people want to do a craft, I also see that at bakers and the greengrocers. It is also hard work,” says Tiems.
As a last attempt to keep the butcher shop alive, according to Tiems, he does all the essential items for free. The counter, the workbench, the cutting machines: the new owner does not have to buy much anymore.
That idea arose after a conversation that the butcher had with two customers. “That chat was about not having a successor. Then I said to those people:” As far as I’m concerned they can have it for free “. And after that:” Then I also want to add 500 or 1000 euros. “
One of the customers put the story of the butcher on Facebook and LinkedIn. Then the ball started rolling. The Regional Dagblad The Stentor It picked up and the attention is bearing fruit. In the meantime, ten people have reported who want to take over the butcher shop.
No matter how beautiful that is, actually they are a bit too late according to Tiems. A lot has to be arranged before the butcher’s shop can change ownership and there is no longer much time. For the time being, the Tiems butcher shop is open for the last time on March 8
“On April 1, my lease will expire and the case must be taken over or empty. They can quickly make it around with me, but then the landlord must also cooperate.”
