A third of the readers of The New York Times were unable to mark the correct location of Ukraine on the map, should from The Great News Quiz survey of the top news of the year on the publication’s website.

Journalists offered readers to choose one of four sections of the map near Russia. “Thousands of Russian troops have moved towards the Ukrainian border this year, posing an invasion threat. Where is Ukraine? ” – asked the editors. Moscow has repeatedly denied such assumptions by Western media.

The wrong answer was given by 32% of 190 thousand respondents. They confused Ukrainian territory with Belarus, Poland and Georgia.
