76 goals.

The player who played for the Winnipeg Jets in his rookie season in the NHL in 1992-93 succeeded in this Teemu Selänne.

It is the NHL’s all-time goal record during a rookie season. Many consider Selänte’s record unbeaten, and it has been for a long time.

No one has managed to score as many goals in one NHL season in more than 30 years.

In the 2000s, the NHL’s season-specific goal record is 65, which was set in the 2007-2008 season by the Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin.

Now both Selänte’s goal record and the 2000’s goal record are possibly about to be broken.

American Toronto Maple Leafs superstar Austin Matthews has scored goals at an incredible pace this season.

Matthews has 48 goals scored in 52 matches. Made by the NHL forecast according to the current pace, the superstar will collect 75 goals in 81 matches in the regular season.

It is worth noting that the Leafs forward’s goal pace has only accelerated. Since the beginning of December, the American has scored 34 goals in 32 matches.

If Matthews manages to play at all, and keep a goal-per-game pace in all the remaining matches of the regular season, he would have 78 goals at the end of the season.

With that amount, Selänte’s goalscoring record would barely be broken.

One of the big questions is whether Matthews will stay healthy. The 27-year-old forward has played a full 82-game regular season only once in his rookie year in 2016-2017.

Matthews is known to take hard hits in front of the goal. Now he has managed to avoid injuries, but there is still a good third of the regular season left. Last season, Matthews missed almost three weeks in January due to a knee injury.

Matthews’ previous goal record is from the 2021-22 season, when he scored 60 goals in 73 games. This is the highest number of goals per season that a Leafs player has ever managed.

On Monday, Matthews will continue his scoring streak when the Leafs face the St. Louis Blues at 8 p.m.

Auston Matthews has become the NHL’s hottest goal scorer. PDO
