A serious injury interrupted the filming of Mika Kaurismäki’s film

The film “Mielsäsähoitätä – Looking for Escorttia etsimäsä” will be premiered next month.

– Do we watch movies here? I haven’t seen this movie yet. I came when it became free, is the question at the door of the cinema in Tölö.

The questioner is nothing more and nothing less than Heikki Kinnunenthat is Mind blowing – Looking for an Eskortti – the performer of the film’s main role, Mielsänähoitat himself.

The advance screening of the film is about to begin, and Kinnunen sits in the audience. The film will have its actual premiere on September 9.

– The finished film always surprises. A film is always something other than when it’s being made, it’s a whole, and this is just it Mika Kaurismäki looking movie.

– I really got emotional, a tear came to my eye.

Kinnunen tells how Kaurismäki never “wasted” at any point.

Kinnunen now played Mielsäshohoitat for the second time. The last time he was seen in the same role was in 2018.

– The director is a new and new landscape when it was filmed in Germany. A fun experience, and Mika was good to work with, he is a professional. The emphasis was different than with Tiina Lym, but the cooperation with both worked well and was nice.

Lymi directed the previous Mindsaver.

In addition to familiar Finns, the film also features German actors who receive incense from Kinnuse.

– All damn good actors.

Heikki Kinnunen says he is “such a 76-year-old normal guy”. According to his own words, his health is almost fine. Strangers still ask him every day, “Have you seen Viljoo?” Pete Anikari

Actor for exchange

The shooting of the movie Mielsäpahoittät – Looking for Escorttia etsimäsä did not go as planned. Aake Kallialan was supposed to play Tarmo, the brother of Mielsäpahoittar, but he was injured in a platform accident a year ago, and was even close to being paralyzed. Kalliala had to withdraw from the film.

The director of the film, Mika Kaurismäki, tells how filming had to be stopped. Kalliala was replaced by washing Kari Väänänenand some of the filming in Finland, about half, had to be redone.

– This has never happened before. It was really surprising, but the most important thing is that Aake recovered.

The film is not only about the Mielensäpahoidat character, but also about a lot more.

– Of course, the character was familiar, but I also made a film about human relationships, brothers, friendship, forgiveness. The world is now spiraling toward everything bad. I wanted to show humanity and forgiveness, they are basic things to get by in the world, the world can also be beautiful.

Mika Kaurismäki and Heikki Kinnunen praise each other’s professionalism. Pete Anikari

The film is exceptional in Kaurismäki’s long career in that Kaurismäki “only” directed the film. In the past, he has produced or scripted and sometimes also edited the film.

– It’s much easier just to guide. Now you could directly enjoy the creative phase. After all, this is quite an actor-centric film, and nowadays I like to make actors-centric films.

Kaurismäki describes Heikki Kinnus as a professional who was easy to work with.

– They have such control over the character. When he puts the hat on, he immediately becomes a Mielansähoitat, Kaurismäki laughs.

Mind blowing – Looking for an Eskortti will premiere on September 9.
