The sense of safety of residents of Oosterhout has sustained a good dent after the fatal shooting, which killed two people. Many people still suffer from the violence that took place for two weeks in the Slotjes-Midden district. The municipality has therefore sent a letter of residents on Friday in which help from specialists are offered.

“In our conversations we hear that there are residents who sometimes no longer feel safe in their neighborhood. We take that signal very seriously,” said a spokesperson.

Since the incident on 28 March, employees of the municipality have been in the neighborhood a lot to speak with the residents. “We saw many emotions, such as sadness, bewilderment, anger and fear. We understand that well.” The municipality points out the inhabitants that people who, for example, ‘poor sleep’ from the events or perhaps dare not even dare to get contact with Victim Support Netherlands.

But the residents can also find help in the neighborhood. “For example, the neighborhood broker – someone who makes a connection between residents and the municipality, and between residents, ed. – regularly cycles around with a striking cargo bike. And there can also be spoken with enforcers, other colleagues and the local police officer.”

The municipality says it does everything to ensure a ‘safe Oosterhout’. “For example, by tackling drug crime.” People can report suspicious situations to Team Security of the municipality on, for example, through Report Crime Anonymous, the municipality writes.
