Presenter Marja Hintikka has drawn attention to the behavior of basic Finns during the racism scandal at Miss Finland.

Some of the MPs of the Basic Finns recently published pictures in which they stretch their eyes. The publications in question were their way of marveling at the former Miss Finland Sarah Dzafcen of the loss of the crown, which was due to a similar image and was seen as a racist act against Asians. The behavior of basic Finns has also spoken about the world.

Now, Hintikka sends his heartfelt greetings to the parliament, as the chairmen of the parliamentary groups of the governing parties will deal with the uproar caused by pictures of basic Finns this week.

– When you discuss the behavior of your eye-stretching colleagues this week, which the whole of Finland is ashamed of, remember that in any listed company such behavior would get you fired right away. How you handle the issue between the government and parliamentary parties says a lot about the state of Oy Suomi Ab, the presenter writes.

Hintikka also states that no “parent in their right mind” would ever let their child behave in a similar way.

– If something similar happened in interactions between children, a mandatory apology, punishment and an absolute demand to improve behavior would follow. If someone in the school world behaved like these MPs, it would be an unequivocally punishable act. Wilma would sing red-hot, a parenting discussion would be organized, followed by a mandatory apology and sanction, says the host.

– This would be about children who are just learning the rules of how to operate in society. And by the way, “it was just a joke” or “humor” is never accepted as an explanation from children. In the school world, it is taught that responsibility is borne for what one says and does, he continues.

Finally, Hintikka sends a message to Prime Minister Petteri Orpo.

– Petteri Orpo, you can’t press the matter with wool. Now there must be a punishment, he insists.

Docent of Asian studies at the University of Helsinki Lasse Lehtonen recently told Iltalehti that at the moment there is no understanding at all in Finland of how big and serious the latest uproar from PS politicians’ comments really is.

– Here, in a very short time, our positive image of the country has been literally crushed. It’s broken, he said.

Lehtonen also stated that the image of Finland both in Japan and elsewhere in East Asia has been extremely positive for many decades, but now in a few days it has fallen into the “minus category”.

According to Lehtonen, the consequences of the commotion are very tangible.

– If we talk about trade, personal ties and mutual cultural appreciation play an important role in East Asian countries. In practice, the possibilities for this kind of interaction are currently being seriously tested, Lehtonen estimates.
