The finishing touches to the Santa Giulia arena are coming to an end.
The Milan-Cortina Olympics are just around the corner, but the main stage of the Games, the Santa Giulia ice rink, is still not ready.
BBC reporter Emma Smith posted videos from inside the hall on X. The sight was stark. For example, the walls and floors of the toilets are completely unfinished. There is a mess everywhere.
– Five days before the first women’s match, the hall is far from ready, Smith reports.
– The toilets can be flushed and the elevators and electrical plugs work, but the hall needs more than a touch of paint. It feels like five months and not five days until the start of the Games, the journalist continues.
Even the corridors of the Santa Giulia arena are still full of different racks and panels. The media hall’s wires are not pulled.
According to Smith, the other competition venues of the Olympics are in better condition, because they did not have to be built from scratch. Construction work on the ice rink started in 2023.
In the Santa Giulia hall, the Olympic gold medals of ice hockey will be decided. AOP
