The ice dance couple Juulia Turkkila–Matthias Versluis finished seventh in the rhythm dance competition of the European Championships in Sheffield.
The Finns collected 78.59 points, which was a success considering the starting points. The competition ends on Saturday at 8:30 p.m., when it’s the turn of the free dances.
Turkkila and Versluis’ preparation for the European Championships has not been optimal, as Versluis suffered a nerve injury in the fall. The pair only started their competitive season at the December WC.
– Today we stayed very calm and were present. It felt really great to skate, and we are very satisfied, Versluis commented in the announcement of the Figure Skating Association.
– In the autumn training, the focus was not so much on the results, but these opportunities that we get are especially valuable and we want to enjoy them as much as possible, Turkkila said.
Finland has historically been represented by no less than three couples at the European Championships. Yuka Orihara and Juho Pirinen came in 16th and Daniela Ivanisky and Matthew Sperry to the 27th place.
