A four-story-high tree collapses in the Les Corts neighborhood of Barcelona

A tree about four stories high has collapsed this Wednesday around 9:20 p.m. in the Les Corts neighborhood of Barcelona, ​​on Loreto street, corner with Burdeus, without causing personal injury.

A piece of machinery used during the day by the workers of the redevelopment works being carried out on the street prevented the trunk from reaching the ground, although the bulk of the highest branches did, reaching the opposite sidewalk.

A team of firefighters arrived shortly after on Loreto Street after some neighbors notified the Emergency Department. The fire department members verified that another tree close to the fallen one was standing firm and closed the path to pedestrians before proceeding to saw the trunk.

Although the causes of the collapse are unknown for now, the tree was in the area of ​​the street that is under construction, in which the pavement had been lifted and which has been fenced off by the workers since last July, when the works began. of redevelopment, which are expected to last at least until next February.

This fall is added to that of a palm tree that at the beginning of last August caused the death of a young woman in the Raval and to a couple of other trees in different central parts of Barcelona. The various cases have raised concerns about the stability of the city’s trees, greatly affected by the drought, to the point that the city council decided to cut down half a thousand palm trees after reviewing the condition of almost a thousand.
