Actor Zac Efron is building a new house in Australia, reports People.
After weighing climate-friendly construction options, Efron ended up choosing a surprising construction material. Most of the house is built from hemp.
According to People, for example, the building bricks used in the house are made from hemp. The plants are collected from the state of New South Wales, where the house itself is also built.
Hemp is also used in the house to make other elements, such as curtains, pillows and bed mattress.
Efron is assisted by a designer in the project Joost Bakker.
In May, Bakker shared a photo on Instagram where the construction work was about to begin.
– I’m excited about Zac’s house project! she wrote in her post, posing with Efron and two others involved in the project.

Hemp used as a building material is considered an environmentally friendly and responsible alternative.
Efron himself has nicknamed the house “FutureCave”, i.e. “cave of the future”. The house will be built on a 128-hectare plot of land, located on the border between the states of New South Wales and Queensland.
The house will have, among other things, six bedrooms and a roof garden.
Efron said in December 2025 of the Australian Financial Review in an interview, actor colleague Russell Crowe recommended moving to Australia.
– Russell Crowe recommended buying land in Australia. He did it himself when he was young and is still very proud of his decision. I then followed this instruction. I love Australia, Efron said in the interview.
Efron has become famous especially for the role of Troy Bolton High School Musical in the movies. He has also acted in films, among other things Baywatch, The Greatest Showman and 17 Again.
