The British police have launched a criminal investigation into two performances of the Glastonbury Festival. The criminal investigation applies to Bob Vylan and Kneecap bands. The latter is intended to perform in August at the Flow Festival in Helsinki.
Mightily According to Punk-duo Bob Vylan’s second member, Bobby Vylan It is said that the audience has been calling for the “death to IDF” during the show. IDF means Israel’s armed forces. According to YLE, the duo gig also showed support for Palestine.
The Kneecap band, for its part, shouted slogans against Britain Prime Minister Keir Starmer at their festival gig. The band also condemned Israel in front of the audience.
According to YLE, Starmer has condemned the events of the festival and criticized the BBC for the fact that the screams ended up directly on the broadcast.
The British police have now launched a criminal investigation into the bands.
Kneecap has already been prosecuted in the past. A member of the Northern Irish Group Mo chasright name Liam o’hannahas been accused of a terrorist offense related to supporting the Hizbollah organization.
Tuomas Kallio, artistic director at the Flow Festival, confirms to Iltalehti by email that Kneecap will perform at the Flow Festival.
– The criminal investigation in another country does not affect this, and the criminal titles (waving a flag of an organization) are not in the investigation, and we have no crimes in Finland, Kallio comments to Iltalehti via email.
“In Britain, this has certainly been politicized, especially due to the political history of Northern Ireland, and Kneecap is known as a very fierce critic of British and language policy,” Kallio adds.
According to Kallio, there is full freedom of expression for performers at the Flow Festival, as long as the Finnish law is followed.
The Flow Festival has also been in the headlines this year because of the criticism it has received. The criticism is based on the KKR investment company, to which the Superstruct Entertainment, which owns the Flow Festival, was sold in 2024. The campaign encourages the audience to boycott the festival and urges artists to participate in work stop.
