It became clear in Deepshikha Srivastava’s speech that it was not easy for them to say goodbye. The master’s student Water engineering came from India to cool northern Germany and her expectations of the people in Lübeck were shaped accordingly at the beginning: “I have to say that I was confronted with the complete opposite. I had the best roommates and the professors always supported us.”
Lara Abusabha, from the German Jordanian University came to the TH Lübeck to Biomedical Engineering to study for a master’s degree: “The collaboration with the professors and the exchange of different perspectives greatly enriched our stay here. Thank you for welcoming us so warmly into your community.”
Weijia Huang (Information technology) added cultural experiences: “Living in Lübeck gave me the opportunity to immerse myself in German culture and traditions. I enjoyed the local festivals, tried delicious marzipan and felt comfortable with the efficiency but also coziness of life in Germany, even if the buses and trains here are not always so punctual.” Jaden Toma (Mechanical Engineering) came from the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) to the TH Lübeck and reported on challenging lectures and exams and the mental balance in the Stress student meeting.
Friendships, Christmas markets and fish sandwiches
The professors at TH Lübeck, in their roles as vice presidents, deans and representatives of their departments, did not miss the opportunity to congratulate the students. Prof. Dr. Karen Cabos, Vice President for Research and International Affairs, congratulated the students and wished them to take the friendships they made here home with them.
Prof. Dr. Manfred Rößle, dean of the department Applied Natural Sciences followed with a question and answer session about cultural experiences. “Which one of you was at the Christmas market?” – a dozen hands raise/rise. “Which one of you has tried fish sandwiches?” – a hand is raised.
The dean of the department Electrical engineering and computer scienceProf. Dr. Andreas Schäfer addressed the students with a quote from William Shakespeare and thanked them for their courage to study abroad.
Also Prof. Dr. Christoph Külls (Department Construction) thanked the students for their decision to come to Lübeck and emphasized the importance of international experiences.
Prof. Dr. Rüdiger Lohmann (Department Mechanical engineering and economics) concluded with an invitation to return to Lübeck.
On the part of ECUST said Prof. HUANG Guangtuan: “It doesn’t matter where you come from or what language you speak, today we are united in joy.”
