With Boygenius (together with Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker) Lucy Dacus won three Grammys and became an indie star. Next step now: the major label debut. Lucy Dacus was tattooed by the album title Forever is a Feeling, as you can see on the artwork-an artwork that is supposed to remind you of a racing laissance painting with the indicated golden frame. In general, there is strong-is-art vibes: In the video for the single “Ankles”, Dacus breaks out of a painting in a Paris Museum. A song is named after the Italian painter, sculptor and Dandy Amedeo “Modigliani” (1884-1920), and before the album release, Dacus played a handful of “special shows” in churches and museums.
Music is very suitable for such venues: orchestral, a lot of acoustic guitar, but little drums and even less of these crispy moments that fans already missed on the last album Home Video (2021). Dacus tells stories of crashing, crash, and never really started, about soft, Mitski-Coded Kammer-Pop and Country-Esken Rock.
These descriptions are sometimes alive, sometimes strangely banal: “Wish you were here / wish i was there / wish that we could have a place that we could share”, sings Dacus in the otherwise strong last song “Lost Time”. Overall, Forever ripples more than it captivates-but Lucy Dacus now has enough hardcore fans who will also be happy to tattoo the album title.
