Bayer 04 Leverkusen and SC Freiburg remain five game days to annoy the established teams. You could all surprise in the women’s football league.

VfL Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt recently clashed in the Bundesliga. The title hardly seems possible for you. Bayern Munich leaders are six points ahead, the remaining program for this season seems feasible. Therefore, the pursuers Wolfsburg and Frankfurt are now primarily concerned with securing a Champions League place. But with Bayer 04 Leverkusen and SC Freiburg, there are two surprise teams behind it. You could at least get hold of one of the three tickets for the Champions League.

Leverkusen’s trainer Pätzold: Giving up is not an option

For a surprise, that was exactly Roberto Pätzold’s plan when he moved to Leverkusen at the beginning of the season. “The intention of further reducing the distance to the big ones in the league packs my ambition“, he said his move to the workself. So far, Pätzold has shown that a lack of experience in women’s football does not have to be a disadvantage. Investing everything, never investing everything – the 45 -year -old demands that from his team, which was even allowed to greet the top of the table this season.

Pätzold is very emotional on the sidelines and passes on his team passionately. Apparently this is well received by his players: Bayer 04 Leverkusen is in a good starting position with just two points and three in order to be able to mix in the top.

With the 6-0 winning victory against Werder Bremen, Leverkusen has made these ambitions clear and at the same time broken a club record: Leverkusen has already achieved the best season result ever with 36 points – so far the Werkelf has never been over 33 points.

Leverkusen’s goal scorers and many yellow cards

Cornelia Kramer with eight and Kristin Kögel with six goals made a decisive contribution to this. Canadian Caroline Kehrer has also been able to cheer five times. At the weekend against Bayern Munich, however, the 27-year-old is missing after seeing the fifth yellow card in the game against Bremen.

By the way, the many cards are a shortcoming in the Leverkusen game: the team already saw 37 yellow and two red cards – no team in the league has more. Pätzold could fix failures like Kehrer from young talents. With 18-year-old Delice Boboy and 19-year-old Loreen Bender, two hopeful young turmoil are in the squad. Both have already proven that they can score goals.

Leverkusens Cornelia Kramer has scored the most goals for the Werkself.

In the defense, on the other hand, Leverkusen not only took good things from the game against Bremen: full -back Shen Menglu fails with a cruciate ligament tear for several months. The Chinese international will no longer be able to help this season. In the upcoming top game with league leader Bayern Munich (Sunday, from 3:15 p.m. in the live ticker), this should be particularly pain. Overall, the Bayer defense is stable this season. Leverkusen got very few shots on goal and only conceded 14 goals.

Tight remaining program is waiting for Bayer 04

The further program for Leverkusen: Cologne, Potsdam, Leipzig – and in the end Wolfsburg is also waiting. Two top games in five remaining games are not an easy task for Pätzold’s team, which has already shown this season that she does not have to hide from the established teams-for example in the draw against Frankfurt or the 1-0 success against Wolfsburg. Maybe the last game of the season against the “wolf” could be decisive in the fight for the Champions League ticket.

This is purely arithmetical but also for SC Freiburg. The Theresa Merk team is within reach with 32 points. And after four victories in a row – most recently against Frankfurt – Freiburg seems to be in top form. After the game against the harmony, the head coach spoke of one “Energy performance”. And that’s also something that distinguishes the Freiburg game this season: lots of power.

Euphoria? Not in Freiburg

The team wants to take this swing into the remaining season games. But the remaining program has it all: Like Leverkusen, the Breisgau women still have to go against Munich and Wolfsburg, as well as against Leipzig (Sunday, from 2 p.m. in the live ticker) and later against Essen and Bremen. Trainer Merk warns of too great euphoria: “I think we know exactly where we stand and by no means arrogant to Leipzig.” However, in order to maintain an opportunity for the Champions League rank, a victory against RB Leipzig must be used.

There is no reason to go too easily to the task. It is not a matter of course to score in Leipzig.

SC trainer Theresa Merk

An important component in the Freiburg game is definitely young talent Cora Zicai, which is now in 7th place on the scorer list. Against Eintracht Frankfurt, she met with a remarkable long -range shot. But Freiburg does not have other top scorers in his ranks. The loan of top scorer Shekiera Martinez ended prematurely, she is now playing for West Ham again. And Hasret Kayikci completes her rehab after a cruciate ligament tear. After all, Eileen Campbell is back in construction training after her hip surgery.

More stable defensive with Surprise potential

Although Freiburg has the most ball losses in the league, the Theresa Med team is defensively stable than in previous years. Among other things, with a good block rate, the team manages to allow fewer goals and make it difficult for the established teams. So Hoffenheim, Munich and now also Frankfurt have had goals against SC Freiburg.

Nevertheless, Merk knows: “The distance to the top clubs has grown. There are really exceptions in which the favorites can really be annoyed.” If your team succeeds in the end of the season, Freiburg could be the biggest surprise of this year’s season.
