Arsenal FC in the next round of the Champions League. The path to the semi -finals was dirty than expected.
The footballers of FC Arsenal stormed into the semi -finals of the Champions League thanks to a rousing catch -up. After the 0: 2 first leg defeat against Real Madrid, the English women won the second duel in London 3-0 (0-0) and, as was two years ago, reached the round of the best four teams. Arsenal coach Renée Slegers did without big words after the success.
Instead, the 36-year-old reminded the first leg in Madrid a week ago-and could not help but a great remark: “Football is there to be played on lawn,” said Slegers after the game. She then criticized the underground of the guest play. Her team had played there in a strongly controversial place – and lost 0: 2.
Club icon Ian Wright also described the space there as “a shame”. In the Emirates Stadium, things went much better for the London women. The lawn is “fantastic,” said Slegers after the game and added: “I think every team shows better football in good places.”
The English European champion Alessia Russo (46th and 59th minute) and Spanish world champion Mariona Caldentey (49.) turned the result in favor of the top team from England. Due to offside positions, two more Russo hits did not count.
Arsenal now meets record winner Olympique Lyon, who prevailed against FC Bayern early Wednesday evening. Real, who has to do without the injured ex-international Melanie Leupolz until the end of the season, missed the first move into the semi-finals for the first time. Leupolz had torn the cruciate ligament in the first leg.
