Eindhoven professional Lucas Pérez fails for several months. He shouldn’t approach his teammates. It is uncertain whether other players have already infected him.
The Dutch champion PSV Eindhoven has to do without newcomers Lucas Pérez. The Spanish attacker has active tuberculosis (TBC) and will fail for a long time. Spanish media report that.
Pérez, who has only been under contract with the club from Eindhoven since the end of February, must first complete in isolation for three to four weeks due to the disease. This heavily burdens the body, so Pérez will need a few weeks after the treatment for the reconstruction of his fitness. A failure of at least five to six weeks is therefore considered likely.
It is questionable whether the 36-year-old can appear again for PSV this season. The last game of the season is played by the second in the table of the Eredivisie on May 18 at Sparta Rotterdam.
Pérez joined PSV after Ricardo Pepi suffered a knee injury and another center forward was missing the team as a replacement for Luuk de Jong. Since Pérez was not registered for European competitions, he has rarely been used. In total, he played three short missions: in the cup semi-final against Go Ahead Eagles and in the league games against Go Ahead Eagles and RKC Waalwijk. He was only on the pitch for a total of 24 minutes. It could be good that it stays that way because Perez only signed one contract until the end of the season.
According to experts, the fact that Pérez has only recently been part of the team could minimize the risk of further infections. Active TBC has a long incubation period in which the sick person can already be contagious. Since this period before Pérez ‘change to Eindhoven should have taken place, there is a less risk that players have infected themselves.
Nevertheless, the PSV professionals and all people who had close contact with Pérez are regularly tested in order to recognize and contain a possible spread of the disease at an early stage.
