A visit to a car show at the TT Circuit in Assen did not end well for everyone yesterday. The police held controls in several places around the city. The harvest? Multiple collected driving licenses and the necessary fines.

According to the police, several reports were received early in the morning of ‘antisocial driving’ and ‘hefty speeding violations on the A28’. Four men were able to hand in their driver’s license because they drove too fast.

A 21-year-old motorist rode 156 kilometers per hour and a 25-year-old motorcyclist from Hardenberg clocked 163 kilometers per hour. A 26-year-old motorist from Hoogeveen was also able to hand in his pink piece of paper because he drove 166 kilometers per hour. The largest speed devil was a 20-year-old motorist from Voorburg, who raced 187 kilometers per hour.

Four other drivers were picked from the road because they exhibited dangerous driving behavior. One of them had to hand in his driver’s license right away. That was a 20 -year -old man from Venlo, who drove his car against the traffic on the A28 near Beilen about the emergency lane.

The police also stopped ten drivers because they drove 30 to 50 kilometers per hour too fast. In addition, 393 vehicles were checked for speed on the N381, N376 and the N371.

Along the Burgemeester Grollemanweg, the police set up a special checkpoint. Cars were checked for noise levels there, among other things. 31 cars were in violation. “These vehicles must be offered for inspection at the RDW again,” the police said. “Despite the necessary traffic violations, the day was largely quiet.”

The Automadness event on the TT Circuit attracted more than three thousand so -called ‘Showcars’. There were all kinds of tuned cars to see, but you could also spot all kinds of Ferraris and and Lamborghinis. For one Ferrari director it was a day to quickly forget. The 47-year-old driver got off the road on the N862 between Emmen and Klazienaveen and bumped into a tree. He and a minor co -driver was injured. The red Ferrari, which cost more than 400,000 euros, was badly damaged.
