Despite the criticism of national coach Roberto Martínez, Portugal is confident about the semi -finals against Germany. “We know that it is always difficult. But we are entitled to achieve big things,” said double goal scorer Trincão with a view to the final tournament in the Nations League.
After the hard fought 5: 2 after extra time against Denmark, the Portuguese will meet the German national team in Munich on June 4th. France and Spain play against each other in the second semi -finals.
Even after the success against the Danes, the Spaniard Martínez had to ask himself some critical questions about his line -up and the often less attractive way of playing his team. “I’m no longer a young coach, I have experience. I’m calm. If the team loses, it’s my fault. If you win, it is the players,” said the 51-year-old. The Portuguese had lost the first leg in Denmark 0: 1.
Gonçalo Ramos (115th minute), Trincão (86./91.), Cristiano Ronaldo (72nd) and Denmark Joachim Andersen by own goal (38.) scored the goals for the hosts. Eintracht scored the Danish goals Frankfurt’s Rasmus Kristensen (56.) and Christian Eriksen (76.). After the regular season, it was 3: 2 (1-0) for Portugal.

Here’s a long time
The Seleção lies as an opponent for the DFB team. The last five duels of a total of 19 meetings could all be won. The last defeat dated June 20, 2000, when Germany under Erich Ribbeck embarrassed himself against a Portuguese B-Elf and consequently said goodbye to the European Championship.
“If you lie down 0: 3 and are still 20 minutes to play-these are hard minutes. You want to crawl and hope that it will go quickly,” recalled ex-international Marco Bode in the summer of 2024 as part of an EM series at the transfer market. The 55-year-old still knew “that we were properly rounded in the tabloids the next day and were shown as bottles. If you leave the group, you have to endure this ridicule.”
