The famous gardens of the former horticultural school in Frederiksoord may be even more famous. The organization of the test, the owners of the garden, want to go for the label of a botanical garden and thus connect with an international network.

“It doesn’t give us anything at all. Nothing at all,” responds Heilien Tonckens, manager of the garden. “You can say: it has a name. But does not yield any money. Maybe visitors.” And that is exactly what happens in botanical gardens across border.

That is what Joshua Kelly, an Irishman and driver of the test, happens exactly. Because Iin Nederland may not be so well -known the status, botanical gardens in, for example, Ireland, France or Spain attract extra visitors. “It gives something. It gives a better status,” he says.
