With the move, the Ministry of Defense hopes to make working at the Navy more attractive. Earlier, investments were made in better salaries, now a more modern building and the central location of the Kazerne Young Recruties have to cross the line to register.
Or, as Colonel Simon Peters put it in the Defense magazine: “You will literally run the back door of the barracks, a bridge crosses and suddenly stands in the bustling city center of Den Helder.”
In that bustling Stadshart Willemsoord – where for a number of years of restaurants, a cinema, theater, nightlife and the town hall are located – the entrepreneurs are enthusiastic about their new neighbors. It will be good for the bond between the city and the navy, Rik says nothing, owner of restaurant Barossa and dance studio Bodylanguage.
“The whole of the Netherlands knows that Den Helder is the naval city,” says nothing. “Such beautiful things happen to the navy, such as the inaugurations and the fairy train, when the partners are brought to their traditional party with a train. We can show that a bit more.”
