In 2021, Josh Cavallo announced in the world that he is gay. A decision that still has an impact today – but still makes it proud.

According to its own statements, the Australian football professional Josh Cavallo also receives “daily murder threats” four years after his coming out. In the “Footballer Unfiltered” podcast, the Adelaide United player spoke about his experiences and described the football world as a “very toxic place”.

In 2021, Cavallo was the first player in the Australian A-League to make his homosexuality public. “I am proud to make public known that I am gay,” he said at the time in a video published by the club. The path to this step was long, but he was very happy with his decision.

Despite the continuing hate comments and threats on social media, the 25-year-old does not regret his coming-out. It was the “best step” and the “best decision” of his life, emphasized Cavallo. “I’m Josh Cavallo. I’m the footballer … The gay footballer. And I’m very proud to say that.”
