On Tuesday afternoon a major power outage was in the center of The Hague. According to network manager Stedin, more than 45,000 households, companies and institutions have been hit. Trams stood still and traffic lights were without power. Even in Scheveningen, beach tents had no electricity. Around half past five, network operator Stedin reported that the malfunction had been resolved. The cause is still unclear.
Various ministries were briefly evacuated, reports a reporter from the ANP news agency. It concerns the buildings of social affairs and employment, of public health, well -being and sports and of education, culture and science. A swimming pool would also have been evacuated in Scheveningen. Several imprisonments were reported in Lifts in Alaraing Service P2000. In the Senate, the current also fell out temporarily during a debate on the asylum budget, reports Ja21 senator Annabel Nanninga in a message X.
HMC Hospital told ANP that it had not been bothered by anything. Transport company HTM reported that there were no trams from the center to the Scheveningen area.
Walk over the escalator
At the IJspaleis – the Hague town hall – officials walked down the stairs in large groups after the electricity had failed. Lifts also stopped, the fire brigade was busy taking people out of lifts elsewhere. In the library next to the town hall, visitors were able to walk on the escalator. Two teenagers tell NRC That first the light dropped out, and they were then asked to leave the building.
At the bus and tram stops it was full of people. The bus was still driving, the trams stopped. Carrier HTM has deployed staff to get everyone at home as well as possible.
