Mainz (dpa) – Sport director Christian Heidel from FSV Mainz 05 is pushing for the rules of the game in the German Football League to be adjusted in the event of corona outbreaks.
“There is only healthy or sick. The health of the players must be the priority. Being able to play and being able to train can also make a difference,” said the 58-year-old at a video press conference of the Bundesliga club. He also assumes that the league will discuss this during the summer break.
After a corona outbreak in Mainz, as a result of which the games against Borussia Dortmund and FC Augsburg had to be postponed, FSV has to deal with the consequences of the virus diseases in those affected. This was clearly shown during training on Sunday. In addition, one does not know how the professionals cope with the strain.
Abnormalities in heart and pulse measurements
In the case of heart and pulse measurements of the sick and those who have since been tested, you can “already see abnormalities,” says coach Bo Svensson. For the most part, he had to plan with actors who were not ill.
The Dane himself also had the virus. “If I quickly run up the stairs, then I also notice something. That’s why I can imagine what it’s like for the boys who have to do high-performance sports.”
Heidel also suggested talking about the term “football-related injuries” and suspensions. Professionals who drop out as a result do not count towards the list of missing players. In Mainz, for example, Alexander Hack and Dominik Kohr were not infected, but are blocked for the catch-up game on Wednesday (6.30 p.m. / DAZN) against BVB.
According to Heidel, the question of how often the players should be tested is difficult: Mainz would have had players with negative rapid tests, but whose PCR test was positive: “We can’t carry out PCR tests every day.”
With the exception of two professionals, all Mainz players have now been tested. According to the club, a total of 20 people from the team and the coaching and supervisory staff were infected with the corona virus. 14 players alone had to be isolated at home, including the three goalkeepers Robin Zentner, Finn Dahmen, who was already injured, and Lasse Riess.
