The world of Donald Trump only knows men and women. In addition – if it is up to the US president – everything that has to do with diversity, transgender people and LGBTI from now on a taboo. In decrees and memos to ministries, the new government has banned a large number of words. Not only terms that have to do with gender, but also, for example, everything that refers to climate change and racism.

The consequences are great. Population statistics will show gender and sexual preference without data about minority groups. Websites with government information about medical interventions, legal assistance, abortion or HIV medication are taken offline. Scientists must withdraw from studies in which controversial concepts occur, even if they do them together with foreign colleagues. And the FEMA, the disaster relief in the US, may no longer refer to a possible link with global warming of the earth with new floods, natural fires or hurricanes.

Also in his first term, Trump forbid words that had to do with climate and diversity, among other things. But this time it happens much faster and also on a much more extensive scale.

And in the background, Doge, the organization of Elon Musk who prunes in government institutions on behalf of the president, lurks and who threatens to send a decree or memo to send the avenue. On some ministries, civil servants were obliged to make lists of all guidelines, articles and web pages within a few weeks in which ‘forbidden’ terminology occurs. For those who forget something, dismissal threatens.

What forbidden words are involved?

Abortion – Abortion

The early termination of a pregnancy.

The theme is not explicitly mentioned in Trump’s decrees about forbidden terminology. Nevertheless, the federal government information about it has no longer been found since Trumps, discover The New York Times. On the website of the American Center for Disease Prevention (CDC), the newspaper no longer came across results for the search term abortion. The comment did appear: “Try: Adoption”.

The strict Christian part of Trumps supporters in particular is fiercely against abortion. Trumps new Minister of Health, Robert F. Kennedy, was always an advocate of ‘Free Choice‘, the right of women to choose themselves. During the recent hearing on his appointment, he suddenly called the abortions in the US a sign of moral decay. Guidelines on contraception also went offline.

Climate Change – Climate change

Also warming up; A change in the climate due to the emissions of greenhouse gases that are released when using fossil fuels.

All terms that have to do with this – from greenhouse effect to sustainability – are taboo on all ministries. After the decrees in January, forest management also received the order to remove reports on forest fires from websites.

Trump has always been ambiguous about climate change. Even before he became president, he called it one ‘hoax. ‘ Later he did not exclude that there was such a thing as warming, but he put the consequences into perspective. And the president questioned the human influence on climate change. After taking office in 2017, the words ‘Global Warming’, ‘Fossil Fuels’ and ‘Greenhouse Gases’ From the website of the EPA environmental agency. Later the word becamescience‘Deleted from the mission statement of the agency. A law was introduced in 2021 to limit environmental research from EPA for risks to public health. That law was then withdrawn again by President Biden.

Diversity – Diversity

The phenomenon of people with different ethnic or cultural backgrounds.

With his decree, Trump wants to cancel the diversity policy of the government. The consequences: government projects to combat racism and discrimination have ended immediately. Everything that has to do with diversity disappeared from government websites. Civil servants receive lists with related words that are now taboo. Funds for scientists conducting research on minorities are frozen and withdrawn. At the beginning of February, the National Cryptology Museum covered the honorary placards of Cryptologists in Color, who have been important for the American Secret Service (NSA) to perform, decoding work, temporarily with brown paper.

Gender – gender

The cultural role that someone takes on the basis of sexual characteristics.

Through a decree, Trump forbade everything that has to do with ‘gender ideology’ and wants the government to use only ‘man’ and ‘woman’ as categories. The taboo has major consequences for medical research and population statistics. Without population screening about gender, in particular carried out by the allotment agencythe social problems that non-bino, intersekse or transgender people are not measured.

During his presidential campaign, Trump already responded to an existing resistance in conservatives for progressive language and gender. The slogan of one advertisement spot that was broadcast wide is significant: “Kamala is for they/them, President Trump is for you.

The government ordered the American Center for Sickness Prevention (CDC) to remove references to ‘gender’ from investigations and databases, although that is contrary to American legislation. In addition to ‘gender’, the use of ‘biologically male/female’ is also taboo. For example, CDC researchers can no longer keep basal demographic data on these topics. The National Science Fund, the publisher of government funds for all kinds of non-medical research fields (from economics, psychology and linguistics, to biology, computer sciences and artificial intelligence) screen Since the decrees on these types of terms.

Immigrant – Immigrant

Someone from another country who is permanently setting in a country.

Trump abolished the diversity policy of the government through a decree, so that this term from government websites and public databases also disappeared.

This can make it more difficult for researchers to find out how these groups are doing. Although the decrees in question are not explicitly about immigrants, many immigrants belong to minority groups. Instead of ‘immigrants’, the American immigration services among Trump are more often about ‘illegal’ and ‘criminal foreigners’.

Also in the election campaign for his first term, Trump focused on migration. At the time, he promised to build a wall on the US and Mexico border that should stop immigration. In the last campaign, he put down “illegal migrants” as violent and dangerous, and promised to turn off “millions of illegal migrants.”

LGBT – LGBT

An abbreviation that stands for ‘lesbians, homosexuals, bisexuals and transgender people’. Sometimes also with the ‘i’ (intersekse), ‘Q’ (queer) and a ‘+’ (those who call themselves different from what the letters stand for, such as asexual).

Medical examination by the CDC to LGBT is frozen and the term is on a screening list of the American National Science Fund. Government research on LGBT people, who have more than average depressive complaints or are victims of abuse, is thus thwarted. See also: ‘gender’.

Non-binary –Non-Binair

Someone who does not see himself as ‘man’ or ‘woman’.

Because the Trump government only wants to recognize the latter two categories, this term is taboo. As a result, medical examination of the CDC is at stake. See also: ‘gender’.

Pregnant Person – pregnant person

A pregnant woman, someone (m/v/x) who is expecting a child.

It is the kind of inclusive language that the Trump government wants to from. It is often used in medical research from, among others, the CDC, where it is now forbidden. The same applies to the term ‘Assigned Male/Female at Birth‘, male/female mentioned at birth. This taboo also affects medical research, where a distinction between gender and gender is sometimes relevant.

Racism – racism

Discrimination based on skin color and culture.

After Trumps decrees, all public government information about discrimination and racism was taken offline. The American National Science Fund also uses a no-go list of about one hundred words. In addition to ‘racism’ there are also words such as ‘diversity’, ‘ethnicity’, ‘race’, ‘polarization’, ‘multicultural’, ‘native community’, ‘marginalized’, ‘discrimination’, just like ‘LGBT’, ‘Women’ and ‘Activism’. Scientific projects are screened on those words. The fund must withdraw from the projects that are about diversity. Research projects about minorities are thus thwarted.

In 2017 it was already forbidden for civil servants of CDC to the words ‘vulnerable’, ‘diversity’ and ‘have the right to’ (entitle) to be used in budget analyzes, just like ‘evidence-basedAnd “science-based. ‘

Transgender – Transgender

Someone who has changed gender.

This term is together with the term ‘transsexual’ taboo. In one of the many decrees, Trump states that he only wants to recognize ‘man’ and ‘woman’. Transgender people often go from man to woman, or vice versa. Yet they are not welcome in Trumps world view, because his conservative supporters together with Drag Queens has chosen as symbolic scapegoats for all progressiveness against which that opposes. Trans women and Drag Queensmen who only dress for entertainment as a woman are one pot wet for that supporters – although that does not do reality. During the last presidential campaign, Trump used that fear in countless commercials Drag Queens and transgender people as dangerous.

In mid -February, all references to transgender from the well -known New York Gaybar Stonewall disappeared, just like the ‘Q’ of Queer and the ‘t’ of Transgender in the abbreviation LGBTQ+used on the pages. Stonewall played a prominent role in the emancipation of LGBT litters in the late 1960s. The building itself and the street in which the bar stands are national monuments under the management of the Federal National Park Service. The “flagrant eruption” distorts the history of Stonewall Inn, the bar said in a statement. “Transgender-in particular transgender women in color-stood with the Stonewall riots and the struggle for LGBTQ+rights in the front line.” See also: ‘Gender’ and ‘LGBT’.
