The Cologne team took the lead after only a few seconds. Then Darmstadt struck back. A turbulent game developed.
The 1. FC Köln has come closer to return to the Bundesliga with a work victory. In the evening game of the 26th second division game day, the “Effzeh” defeated 2-1 on Saturday Darmstadt 98 (1: 1). The team of coach Gerhard Struber again pushes itself up to one point to Hamburger SV and is second in the table.
For Cologne, Jan Thielmann (1st minute) first scored the second fastest goal of the season. Fraser Hornby (25th) equalized by a penalty, but had to leave the place after a yellow-red card in the 67th minute. Cologne used the majority for the decisive penalty gate by Luca Waldschmidt (80th). Darmstadt remains in 13th place.
The floodlight game started with a bang. Sergio López completely misjudged keeper Marcel shoes on Darmstadt’s keeper, so Thielmann could intercept the ball and scored 1-0 after 50 seconds. After that, Cologne was determined and aggressive.
After a penalty area, however, protest suddenly stood out for the “lilies”: Dominique Heintz had got the ball by the hand. Hornby confidently converted the resulting penalty. The Cologne team were then a little more dangerous in the penalty area in a predominantly unexpected game, but were not able to convert their chances into goals.
The second half began eventingly on both sides. The Hornby, who had just been yellow-aged, slipped into Jusuf Gazibegović with an open sole and saw the yellow-red card. Gazibegović had to leave the place due to injury – Cologne ran out and won. ISAC Lidberg fouled in front of the penalty Timo Hübers.
