The Nuremberg Ice Tigers have reached the quarter -finals in the German ice hockey league for the first time in six years.
In the third and decisive duel of the pre-playoffs with the Schwenninger Wild Wings for the last free place in the final round, the Franks prevailed 4: 2 (1: 0, 0: 0, 3: 2). In the playoffs of the top eight, the two -time runner -up challenges the main round winner ERC Ingolstadt from Sunday.
Hits by Ryan Stoa (12th), Cole Maier (48th) as well as Jeremy McKenna and again Stoa (both 59.) had Nuremberg cheered. The team of coach Mitch O’keefe had already won the opening match of the playoff excretion 4: 3.
But the Wild Wings then defended the first match ball of the Ice Tigers on their own ice with a 3-1 win and forced the decision game. In Nuremberg, however, the Black Forests not gave the gates of Boaz Bassen (51st) and Jordan Murray (55th) to the second playoff participation since their return twelve years ago.
In addition to the Bayern comparison between Ingolstadt and Nuremberg, the other three best-of-Seven series in the playoff quarter-finals will also begin on Sunday.
Defending champion Eisbären Berlin and the Straubing Tigers, runner -up Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven and the Cologne Haie as well as the Adler Mannheim and the EHC Red Bull Munich meet.
