In view of the weakening economy and faults in trade policy, Hamburg entrepreneur Michael Otto is pushing for a quick government formation in Germany. A lot is happening in the world.
“And I think it is important that in Germany we will quickly come to a government formation that we are able to act,” said Otto in an interview by the German Press Agency in Hamburg.
Otto spoke in favor of closer cooperation in Europe and in particular the so -called Weimar triangle. There are deviators such as Hungary and Slovakia. “But we should make sure that we definitely top up the Franco-German friendship very closely,” said Otto. Poland should be added. A core group of European countries can be formed with other willing states, “but then speak to a language”.
Greater independence from the USA and China as the goal
In order to become more independent of the USA and China, Europe must open its trade rooms according to Otto. He spoke out for a quick ratification of the free trade agreement between the European Union and the South American state alliance Mercosur. Europe should also increase trade with India and Mexico.
Otto, 81, is one of the most famous and wealthiest entrepreneurs in Germany. For 26 years he headed the mail order company founded by his father in Hamburg and expanded it into an international group. He is the chairman of the board of trustees of the Michael Otto Foundation, which mostly hold the company shares at Otto Group.
