Manchester United is deep in the crisis in terms of sport – and still has big plans. The club apparently even wants to sacrifice a symbol of its history.

The English football club Manchester United has announced the construction of a stadium with 100,000 seats. The new venue of the sporty crisis -up record champion is to be built right next to the Old Trafford stadium. Designs for this were presented in the London office of the architects Foster + Partners. However, a final decision on the implementation was initially pending.

According to information from the BBC, the construction could cost two billion pounds (approx. 2.4 billion euros). The United came to the conclusion that a new building makes more sense than a renovation of the 115 -year -old Old Trafford, which bears the nickname “Theater of Dreams” (theater of dreams).

“Today an incredibly exciting journey begins to realize the world’s best football stadium,” United participant Sir Jim Ratcliffe was quoted. “Our current stadium has served us a great service in the past 115 years, but it has fallen behind the best arenas in world sports.” With the stadium building, the surrounding area also wants to revitalize, create jobs and living space, it said.

The plans are supported by the former successful coach of the Red Devils, Sir Alex Ferguson. “For me personally, Old Trafford has many special memories, but we have to be brave and take this opportunity to build a new home for the future in which new history is written,” said Ferguson. “Manchester United should always strive for the best – on and off the square – and that also includes the stadium in which we play.”
