The Ministry of Defense purchases 13 fast vessels. They replace the current FRISCs. De Haas Shipyards in Rotterdam is building the so -called Future Fast Interceptors (FFI). The contracts were signed on 10 March 2025.
The new boats are more modern, faster and heavier armed than the Frisc’s (Fast Raiding Interception and Special Forces Craft). They also have an improved sensor and communication system. They are also less easy to detect for the enemy. In addition, the focus is on reducing the physical burden on staff. Innovations in hull and seats soften hard shocks at speed in combination with high waves.
The Future Fast Interceptors (FFI) come in the inventory with units of the army. But the Maritime Special Operations Forces (Marsof) of the Marine Corps take the most part. The vessels are intended for boarding and other special operations in the highest spectrum.
Maritime industry
Although no decisive factor, the choice of a Dutch supplier contributes to the stimulation of the ‘own’ maritime industry. De Haas Shipyards is expected to deliver the 13 vessels within 3.5 years.
