In October, followers of Rot-Weiss Essen are brutally attacked on the way to the third division game in Rostock. The fans have agreed to investigate the federal police. Now there are raids.

After a violent discussion on a special train with fans of Hansa Rostock and Rot-Weiss Essen, the federal police searched several apartments. The raid started early in the morning and affected a total of 31 suspects. According to a spokeswoman for the federal police, the searches in North Rhine-Westphalia and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania took place, as well as one in Berlin and Brandenburg.

The investigations by the federal police are aimed, among other things, due to suspicion of the breach of the peace in a particularly severe case, dangerous bodily harm, property damage and a dangerous interference in rail traffic. Arrest warrants were initially not enacted, it was primarily concerned with ensuring evidence, it said. Today’s measures are the start of further investigations, in which, among other things, mobile phones, computers and documents are to be evaluated.

The incident occurred on October 26, 2024 when a special train with hundreds of fans from Essen on the way from Berlin to Rostock near Gransee (Brandenburg) was stopped by an emergency braking. Afterwards hooded and aggressive perpetrators had attacked the train and destroyed several slices. There are also a disputes outside the wagons. According to the federal police, there were 780 people on the train at the time of the attack, including families.

The previous investigations have shown that fans of both clubs had apparently apparently arranged for this discussion. According to the federal police, the attack was targeted and organized, the perpetrators had acted conspiratorially and dangerously. According to the police, the property damage incurred amounts to 118,000 euros. Shortly after the crime, a 20-year-old from the Northwest Mecklenburg district had been identified as a suspect.

After the attack, five Hansa Rostock supervisory boards had laid down their offices and declared that this escalation had exceeded a red line. The club distanced itself from the incidents. In the past, Hansa fans had been noticed several times by negative headlines.

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s Interior Minister Christian Pegel (SPD) called for clear consequences for the perpetrators from the association. “Again, a small group of criminals who abuse folk sports for their desire for violence has great damage to the club, the city and our country,” said Pegel.
