During Faar you hear stories and authors who often do not have the opportunity to speak out. For example, psychologist Birsen Taspinar writes in her book ‘The pain deep inside’ about the deep wounds of racism: “We try to create an accent in which voices and questions do not ask or oppresses, get space.”

The festival takes the boundaries of non-fiction by telling stories that you don’t find in a seven-hour news, but are stories that have an influence on our lives. “This is how an arts festival can prove itself,” says An Pauwels curator Faar.

The Book Festival runs until Sunday at various places in Ostend.
