In Sint-Gillis-Waas, East Flanders, just across the border in Belgium, bird flu has been set at a broiler company. This outbreak is close to an earlier outbreak in Sint-Gillis-Waas on February 18, Belgium has set a limitation zone, the security part of which is partly on Dutch territory. That is why the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature (LVVN) set a security zone in the subsequent area in the Netherlands, under Hulst in the province of Zeeland. The company in Belgium will be cleared.

Transport ban

Due to the outbreak close to the Dutch border, part of the limitation zone of 10 kilometers falls in the Netherlands. This part of the restriction zone almost entirely overlaps with the limitation area already established on 18 February, following the earlier infection in Sint-Gillis-Waas. There is one poultry farm in the new restriction area in the Netherlands, which is also located in the earlier restriction area. A transport ban applies within the 10-kilometer area. This means that no poultry and breeding and consumption eggs may be transported from locations with birds in this zone. A ban also applies to the removal of manure of birds and uses litter, and for other animals and animal products from companies with birds. These measures are needed to prevent the spread of the bird flu virus. Where exactly the area is, can be seen on the Animal disease viewer of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO).

Tracing test

As a result of this infection, a tracing test will be conducted by Belgium into the source and possible risky contacts.
