You can recognize them by the roll boxes or backpacks that come from the trunk: holidaymakers who park their car for free in the Eindhoven district of Meerhoven. They sometimes leave them there for weeks. It is a thorn in the eyes of the residents. Some long -parkers found their cars damaged.

Three people with backpacks get out of their car near the bus stop. They take the bus to Eindhoven Airport and go to Poland for two days. When the reporter asks why they parked their car in the neighborhood, they laugh. “No comments.”

Damage
Free parking is allowed and is even recommended if you are looking for tips for cheap parking at Eindhoven Airport on the internet. However, the website of Parking Company EazzyPark is warned: “You can park your car for free in neighborhoods such as Meerhoven and Grasrijk in Eindhoven, which are close to the airport. This is not necessarily advisable, because there is regularly vandalism here. So parking in these neighborhoods is at your own risk and you can wonder if it is socially desirable.”

Stanley Simoons knows that it happens a lot. “Sometimes cars are here for six weeks, which means that residents cannot find a parking space. Some people get angry. Wagens have been damaged earlier, even scratched. I once saw that a large Tesla was damaged,” says Stanley. “We can’t do anything about it. They put their car here near the bus stop and leave. I think that you will eventually enter paid parking, and then it will also be more expensive for the residents.”

Ilse, who exhausts her dog, knows that some local residents have made notes among the wipers with cars that were parked for a long time and were clearly not from local residents. “Earlier, people have also stuck A4 pages on their windows to alert holidaymakers that parking in the neighborhood in front of the airport is not allowed.”

Parking
Ilse is not right, says the municipality of Eindhoven. There is no period of parking in a public parking space for ordinary passenger cars. It may not be desirable, but it is allowed.

“It’s worthless,” Erna Visser responds to the long -parkers in the neighborhood. “I sometimes don’t dare to take the car because there is no more parking space in the evening.” That is why Erna takes the bike today. “It makes me angry. They want to spend money on their vacation, but not on parking costs. In sandy, a neighborhood closer to Eindhoven Airport, paid parking has been introduced. As far as I am concerned, that is also allowed here.”

At a bus stop away is a couple that goes to Málaga for a week. They too have parked their car just outside the area where paid parking applies in sandy. The holidaymakers are not interested in explaining why they put their car in front of Lilly Croes. “We have a lot of problems with parking here,” says Lilly. “Fortunately we have a fixed parking space ourselves, but if we get a visit or want to unload something quickly in front of the door, that is never possible.” When asked if she understands the free parking holiday makers, Lilly responds with a smile: “I would do it myself.”
