Despite an early red card, FC Barcelona won the round of 16 in the premier class at Benfica Lisbon. The Portuguese are likely to be annoyed by 0: 1 (0: 0) on Wednesday.
Because Vangelis Pavlidis would have scored the lead with a tight shot after just 18 seconds if Wojciech Szczęsny would have been in the box of the guests from Catalonia, which stretched out and destroyed the early chance.
And then “Kerem” Aktürkoğlu could have made it 1-0 shortly before the break, but again the Polish goalkeeper of Hansi Flick’s team was better and parried. But both chances did not lead to success – although “Barca” had to act with one man less from the 22nd minute.

Because Pavldiis had started a solo again, and the Catalane had come too late at the tackling and got the Greeks off his legs. But neither the chances nor the numerical superiority had led to the goal for the Portuguese. After the break, Barcelona suddenly cheered: Benfica made a fatal mistake in the building game because António Silva played a cross pass into the back room of Álvaro Fernández. Raphinha injected in between and pulled off centrally from over 20 meters. His flat left shot hit perfectly in the bottom right of the corner, Trubin stretched in vain.
Deep in the second section of the game, the Barca supporters hoped for a penalty because the German referee Felix Zwayer correctly punished a foul by Szczesny against Andrea Belotti. But then the penalty was withdrawn because Belotti narrowly started out of offside.
Benfica misses compensation
In the final phase, Benfica pressed the equalization and would have been successful for a hair. But that replaces João Rêgo was pressured too strongly to be able to bring the ball onto the gate of the guests in a controlled manner. The time for the Portuguese became less and less – and then Zwayer whistled the victory of the guests from Spain.
