In February 2023, the Ghent Court of Appeal Van van Hong finally sentenced to ten years in prison. However, his deputy N. van Kim could never be arrested. That is why he was tried in absentia on Wednesday morning.
The federal public prosecutor explained that ‘Kim’ was at the head of the Safehouse in the Gosstraat in Anderlecht. The defendant was designated as a human smuggler by, among other things, a few taxi drivers and victims. A video clip even appeared from cooling transport. “In full death struggle, the victim asks to certainly continue the boss of the Safehouse and the taxi driver,” said attorney Ann Lukowiak.
In total, N. van Kim had to answer for the smuggling of at least 77 migrants, spread over 56 transports. The court ruled on 7 May.
