Lisa Krans collects stuff for animals in need in Ukraine

In the war between Russia and Ukraine not only people are victims. Animals also have a hard time, because they are left behind by all the violence of war. That is why Lisa Krans from Emmer-Compascuum takes action for the animals. “Seeing people having to let go of their horses in the hope that they will survive is really close to your heart.”

Krans has two horses of his own and has therefore built up a network. When she saw the videos of animals in difficulty on the internet, she decided to take action. “Horses were released, people who have to leave everything and take their animals, but have nothing else. That is close to your heart. Animals are often forgotten in these kinds of cases.”

‘Grown into something big’

That’s why she started a fundraiser with a number of others. They have already received many donations in the form of harnesses, collars, travel baskets, horse blankets, halters and food. A transport company will transport the goods, the drivers take days off for this. That is why donations are possible to make this possible. “Initially we started with animal goods, but it has grown into something big,” says Krans. She does it together with a number of animal lovers from the rest of the country. “All friends of each other. A group that is always together from the horse world.”

The items are stored in a shed in Kootwijkerbroek. “The items go to Poland and are intended for a foundation that is committed to exotic animals, too. We are also working on going that way ourselves, because we have a lot of medication.” The plan is to bring this to Poznan next week. “That’s where our contact person is, who brings the stuff to the border.”

For the campaign, Krans and her friends are looking for medication for horses, dogs and cats. “And stuff for exotic animals: food, medication. Things they need to survive.” You can e-mail initiatives to [email protected].
