It was organized chaos on Saturday at transport company Ron van Heur in Kelpen-Oler. A fundraiser for Ukraine was held there. Anyone who wanted to could bring things.
And there was a massive response.
traffic wardens
Traffic wardens were even called in to make sure things run smoothly. The initial intention was to send three trucks from the transport company with stuff to Poland’s border with Ukraine. But that soon had to be adjusted. Colleague companies were asked to make two more trucks available. And that probably isn’t enough either.
To asylum seekers’ centers
The items that do not go to Ukraine still end up with the refugees. “We will sort the items that remain neatly with the names on it and what’s in it. They will then go to the thousands of Ukrainians who come here to the reception centers,” reassures Wim van de Moosdijk of the organization.
Red Cross
The truck transport leaves on Sunday and has a special permit to drive through Germany on that day. It also drives with the Red Cross glued to the trucks so that it is visible that it is an aid transport.
