A 32-year-old man from Hoogeveen has to pay a fine of 400 euros because he has not prevented his dog from biting a 10-year-old boy. “The cables hung out of his arm,” said the public prosecutor about this.
The man left his dog on New Year’s Eve 2021. He called for a group of boys to stop fireworks. He had just taken over the dog from a sick friend and did not know how that animal would react. The boys stopped off while the man walked by.
He was approached by one of the mothers of the boys. He started talking to her and the animal was stroked for minutes. Suddenly a screech sounded. The woman saw the boy hanging half under the dog, with his arm in the animal’s mouth. The dog shook the arm. Then the woman squeezed the throat of the dog. Because the animal no longer got air, he let go.
The dog was shocked by heavy fireworks that was suddenly set off, the man said. According to him it all happened so quickly. He had the dog on a rig, but couldn’t prevent it. The man was warned by the previous owner. The animal was not used to fireworks, so he had to walk the animal briefly.
On the other hand, the man chatted with neighbors, the public prosecutor said. De Hoogevener has been insufficiently reluctant to the animal, the prosecutor said. He demanded a 30 -hour work sentence. The judge also believes that the man did not do enough to prevent the bite incident. She took into account the passage of time and the circumstances.
The dog was seized after the incident. Later the animal was allowed to return to his boss.
