As early as 1936, Dalerveen became a gathering point for Agriculture & Society, the predecessor of NSB activism, with Café Meppelink as the Center for Propaganda evenings and meetings. Wijnandus Meppelink, a key figure in this movement, became increasingly closely involved in the NSB and collaborated with the Landwacht, a paramilitary organization that led resistance people.
In collaboration with other NSB members, such as architect Pieter Krook and Landwacht leader Johannes Smit, Meppelink carried out house searches and arrests and used violence to achieve his goals.
