Bayer Leverkusen promoted Kim Falkenberg to director of football. The 36-year-old previously worked as head of the scouting department and will start the new post on March 1st. “Kim Falkenberg decisively helped shape the sustainable development of Bayer 04 in the past few years,” said Managing Director Simon Rolfes in the club announcement.
Falkenberg once played in the youth of Bayer Leverkusen before he made the leap into the professional area via Oberhausen and Fürth. He completed a total of 106 second division games for Fürth, Oberhausen, Sandhausen and Aachen. After his career at VfL Osnabrück in 2018, he went through several stations in the scouting of the Werkself and has been a squad planner and head of the scouting department since 2022.
“The quality of our current squad is also based on his work and that of its employees, the Kim directs motivating, effective and prudent nature. He is an important part of our strong management team and we are pleased that we can build sporting expertise on Kim’s, ”said Rolfes. Since Falkenberg was appointed squad planner in the summer of 2022, Bayer’s squad value has increased by almost 40 percent to 637 million euros.
“I find it as an award to be able to act as a director of football at Bayer 04. The close cooperation with Simon Rolfes is based on mutual trust. I am very much looking forward to continuing our common path with the aim of achieving new successes and establishing the club in the German and European top in the long term, ”Falkenberg commented on his promotion.
