The foxes needed a win, so they worked out a victory. With 39:29, the Berlin handball players in the Champions League win at home against RK Pelister and keep hope for the direct path to the quarter -finals.
The Foxes Berlin have preserved their chance of direct qualifications for the quarter -finals of the Champions League. In the penultimate game of the group phase, the Berliners celebrated a 39:29 home win against RK Pelister from Northern Macedonia on Thursday evening. On the side of the foxes, Matthes Langhoff shone on the side of the foxes.
Langhoff dominates the start
The back room player in the Max-Schmeling-Halle decisively helped compensate for the failure of the otherwise important Lasse Andersson. Just like the missing Tim Freihofer, he plagued with a flu on Thursday, complaining about a pinching back. Langhoff, on the other hand, was fit – and fully there from the start.
As part of a rapidly playing Berlin offensive, he sank his first four litters in the goal of the guests from Macedonia. Langhoff then somehow cheated on his fifth throw, before another more powerful again from the foxse’s point of view. After almost 18 minutes, Langhoff alone had more goals on his account than the entire team of guest.
Overwhelmed guests stabilize
In general, almost all signs were on a dominant to outdated victory of the Berlin hosts. Four days after the clear home win against Flensburg in the Bundesliga, the team of coach Jaron Siewert was superior in all areas at that time. At the back Lasse Ludwig had largely re -nailed his gate and was able to rely on well -working foreflaces. At the front, the foxes rolled over the previously overwhelmed guest defense with a lot of speed, good ball movement and a lot of variability.
Then, however, this took advantage of the fact that Foxes coach Siewert sometimes rotated a lot and also treated his exceptional time Mathias Gidsel many breaks. At the back, the guests from the northern Macedonian city of Bitola grabbed better, and they also played more consistently and creative at the front. First they stylized themselves, then they shortened their gap. At 15:12 at halftime, the Berliners suddenly only led three goals.

Tricky start into the second half
And the Berliners also struggled to start the second half. The guests put them offensive and defensive in front of one or the other tricky task. In the 38th minute, Mamdouh Schebib shortened the deficit of the northern Macedonians to 16:18. On the other parquet side, Nils Lichtlein failed as a representative of Freihöfer from the seven-meter stroke. It was a moment when the game had the potential to tip over.
The fact that the foxes could prevent this was on the one hand because of the higher passage, which it subsequently inserted in terms of intensity, and on the other hand Mathias Gidsel. The Dane was not always the one who was at the end of the Berlin ball relay, but he still shaped them decisively. Again and again Gidsel tore with good movements in one-on-one gaps into the defensive of the guests, and also created good throws for his teammates with good passes. The result: ten minutes before the end they led again with 31:24.
In the end it becomes clear
The game was decided early at the latest. A fact that Foxes trainer Siewert also recognized and consequently gave the young Jan Grüner for a few minutes. The 18-year-old Berlin promptly thanked his trainer and scored his first goal in the Champions League. Shortly afterwards, the 39:29 success of the Berliners was perfect.
The foxes are a game before the end of the group phase with Paris St. Germain in third place in Group A. In order to make direct qualifications for the quarter -finals perfect, the Berliners will have to win their away game with leaders Veszprem next Thursday. At the same time, however, you also have to hope for Sagittarius from Plock against the table runners -up Sporting Lisbon. If the Berlin direct quarter-final qualification, you will go to a playoff round for you beforehand.
