RB Leipzig was the last team to enter the semi-finals of the DFB Cup perfectly. A handball of the opponent brought the Saxons to the winning road.

With a 1-0 win (0: 0) via VfL Wolfsburg, RB Leipzig has solved the last ticket for the semi-finals of the DFB Cup. The team of coach Marco Rose cheered in the end over a goal of Benjamin Šeško. The 21-year-old met Kilian Fischer after a handball by Wolfsburg (69th minute).

The four semi -finalists of this year’s cup season have been determined: In addition to RB Leipzig, the two Bundesliga competitors Bayer Leverkusen and VfB Stuttgart have also made it in the round of the last four. Arminia Bielefeld is also surprising. The third division team had sensationally prevailed on Tuesday evening with 2-1 against Werder Bremen.

Who the teams meet in the semi -finals will be drawn on Sunday. The two games for moving into the final will take place on April 1 and 2.

With just one win in the second half of the Bundesliga, Leipzig started anything but confident. Before the kick -off, sports director Marcel Schäfer tried to take the discussion about coach Rose. “We are convinced that we will reach our season goals in this constellation. We know that we don’t have a good phase,” said the 40-year-old at Sky.

Neither of the two teams seemed inhibited, the game was intensively, but also with technical refinements. At first, none of the teams was outstanding, but it looked like football.

Only with the chances did it not remain in the area of the small print, somewhat top -class, the fans did not see at first. Loïs Openda (4th) shot over as well as Tiago Tomás (5th). Konstantinos Koulierakis (14th) subjugated a Leipzig counterattack in the greatest need.

Patrick Wimmer provided the most dangerous end in the first round. Shortly before half-time, the outdoor car player who had been in the center for a few weeks tried to surprise RB keeper Maarten Vandevoordt into the short corner with a hard shot. But the replacement for regular goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi parried brilliantly.

Shortly after the change, the young Belgian would have been powerless. Mohamed Amoura (48th) won the header duel with Ridle Baku, which was only changed from Wolfsburg in January to Leipzig, but the ball clapped on the crossbar. A minute later, Andreas Skov Olsen checked Vandordt with a shot, who was able to fend off to the corner.

Then Leipzig got a little more of the game – and almost cheered. But Šeško (64.) did not perfectly caught the header from a short distance, the ball rushed past the long post. Shortly afterwards, Šeško flanked in the penalty area and caught the arm of the Wolfsburg Kilian Fischer with the ball. Referee Tobias Reichel immediately pointed to the penalty point, the video assistant confirmed the decision. Šeško started and converted safely.
