Munich (dpa -AfX) – Due to a two -day warning strike of the Verdi union, over 80 percent of the flights will be will be canceled at Munich Airport on Thursday and Friday. The airport company FMG informed the passengers about the canceled flights on their website. However, the airport should not be closed.

First effects even before the warning strike began

Several airlines canceled the first flights on Wednesday evening, before the warning strike had even started, as can be seen from the FMG flight schedule. Among other things, flights to Bilbao and Warsaw should be canceled.

Around 830 starts and landings were planned for Thursday and Friday on the second largest German airport. In absolute figures, 80 percent of the flights corresponds to the fact that over 1,300 machines are expected to start or land on the two days.

However, this number could increase: “Further cancellations are not excluded,” wrote the airport. The warning strike is to officially start on Thursday at midnight and end on Friday at midnight. Saturday is the first day of the Bavarian carnival holidays.

Collective round in the public service strikes air traffic

The airlines are not involved in the public service in the current tariff round, but are now affected. Verdi has called up the airport employee and the employees of the airport as well as the ground traffic services for work.

The union wants to increase the pressure on the municipalities and the federal government. The unions want to enforce a wage increase of eight percent, but at least 350 euros per month. In addition, the unions want to negotiate three additional days off.

Lufthansa (Lufthansa) expects extensive deletions

The most important airline in Munich is Lufthansa. In addition to Frankfurt, the Bavarian capital is one of the company’s two hubs for global air traffic. “On both days there will be delays and extensive deletions on all flights of the Lufthansa Group Airlines from and to Munich,” said a spokeswoman. “The aim is to be able to return to a stable flight schedule as quickly as possible on Saturday.”

The company has set up a special flight schedule. Lufthansa is not a collective bargaining partner in this discussion, but like many other airlines.

Urgent appeal to passengers: inform in advance

The airport urgently appeals to the passengers to find out about the status of their planned flights in advance. Lufthansa wants to contact the affected passengers and offers free rebooking or cancellation to./cho/dp/nas
