Bruges/BavikhoveThe war between Ukraine and Russia is being felt at the Bruges and by extension West Flemish breweries. Both Bourgogne des Flandres and De Halve Maan beers are eagerly drunk in Russia. Brewery De Brabandere even brews a specific beer for the Russians. However, exports have now come to a complete standstill. “It’s a shame, because it was a growth market together with Ukraine,” says Xavier Vanneste of De Halve Maan. In the longer term, an additional problem may arise: the rising glass price.
