The activities and staff of the distribution center will be moved to Zaandam from March, because according to Albert Heijn the location in Hoorn no longer meets the future needs of the company. Sustainability plays an important role in this, since the distribution center in Zaandam is already advanced in the field of energy transition.

According to the trade unions, the move has major consequences for the 180 employees of the distribution center, because they now have a longer travel time and also have to deal with other working hours.

‘Strange view by Albert Heijn’

“There are employees who do not want to or cannot move. We want a good arrangement for that. Albert Heijn does not want to talk to us about that. That is a strange view about what good employership entails,” says Erdem. “But actions are about the collective. And if that is not there, it will stop.”

Earlier this month, the trade unions for the gate of the distribution center organized an action meeting to gauge how great the willingness will be. A signature campaign followed in which one hundred signatures were collected, but not with the desired result.

‘Relocation is incredibly drastic’

“According to Albert Heijn, they are not legally obliged to sit down with us, because there are no forced redundancies. We dispute that because this move is extremely drastic for many employees.”
