He once climbed into the 2nd Bundesliga with Hansa Rostock. Now Pascal Breier is kicking in the Oberliga – but initially struggling with a tragic death.
A severe stroke of fate for Pascal Breier: The wife of the former Hansa Rostock player died at the age of 39 after a long illness. In addition to Breier, the three children together also mourn their mother. The 33-year-old professional, who has been active for top division FC Anker Wismar since summer 2024, was initially released from the game in order to be able to devote himself to his family.
Danny Pommerenke, the sporting director of Anker Wismar, emphasized in an interview with the “Ostsee-Zeitung” that the club was fully behind his player: “On such a thing, football takes a back seat. He has full support.”
How long Breier will pause is currently not foreseeable. Pommerenke made it clear: “If he feels emotionally ready for a return, we will stand behind him. Pascal gets all the time in the world.”
The striker was active for Hansa Rostock between 2018 and 2023, played 158 competitive games and celebrated the promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga with the club. He then switched to VfB Lübeck, but returned to Hansa Rostock as a team manager in the 2024/25 season.
But just a few weeks after taking office, he decided to do this task. At the time, he explained: “With a heavy heart I have to put my office as a team manager down for personal reasons. My wife and my two small daughters need their husband and father at their side. This is with the challenging tasks of a team manager who is around the clock Team should be there, unfortunately not compatible for me. “
