A 26 -year -old man from Helmond received less prison for causing a fatal accident on appeal. The Court of Appeal in Den Bosch put him in prison for three years, L1 reports.
The court in Maastricht had previously sentenced the man to four years in prison, because in September 2021 he was killed someone on the A67 motorway near Maasbree in Limburg.
According to the Court, the Helmonder, Metchel S., has between 243 and 277 kilometers per hour driven. The maximum speed on that road is 130 kilometers per hour.
The Court of Appeal agreed with the court that the Helmonder, Metchel S., may not control motor vehicles for five years.
Specially adjusted Mercedes
The accident happened on September 25, 2021. The Helmonder tore in a specially adjusted Mercedes AMG with extremely high speed over the A67 in the direction of Venlo, when he clashed an Opel Omega on top. Only half a second before the Opel was rammed from behind, S. braked.
Due to the accident, the hit the vehicle hit with three German passengers, cousins of each other, caught fire. All were injured. One of them, a 37 -year -old man from Mönchengladbach, died later in a hospital. The accident would still have a major impact on the health of the other two passengers.
“With his actions, the suspect has caused an irreversible loss and immense suffering to the relatives of the victim. Due to the reckless behavior of the suspect, the victim died, “says the court.
During the court session, S. denied that he had been in the car. Furthermore, he didn’t want to say anything. The judges were unhappy about his driving behavior. He was also blamed for him, just like a passenger, fled after the collision. Possibly both were after a night out under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
