The seed for his passion for art was planned at George in his youth. “As a boy we had a school museum class. Then we went to the Rijksmuseum,” says George. “Then I saw there The Jewish bride van Rembrandt. I found it overwhelming and it never let me go. “

Only at a later age George brought his passion for art in practice and he started collecting art with his wife. Favorite paintings of the two are the old man with Turbbrand van Rembrandt, man who reads a letter and a woman with sewing by Pieter de Hooch and of course a young maid by Michael Sweerts.

The latter work also adorns the poster of the exhibition. “It’s so beautiful how the girl actually looks away from the viewer, perhaps already working on her work,” says George. “The work has hung for a long time next to the girl with the pearl of Vermeer in the Mauritshuis. It’s really a top piece!”
